Do You Hear What I Hear?

That would be the alarm clock going off at 5:00 am. An entire hour earlier than what it normally goes off. That is because I amsubbing for two days in a 5th grade bilingual vacancy. My Dr Pepper and Vitamin B12 better kick in. Let's just say it is Monday and I am already counting down to Friday. And Christmas break even though I am going to be off for 2 weeks without pay.

Today's song on the 24 Days of Christmas is Do You Hear What I Hear? I do not know why Ihave always liked it. I just have. A little background on the song for you.It was written in October of 1962. Lyrics by Noel Regney and music by Gloria Shayne, They were married when they wrote it and it is believed that they wrote it for the Cuban Missile Crisis. It was originally recorded by the Harry Simeone Chorale. They had also made popular The Little Drummer Boy. It sold more than a quarter million copies during the 1962 holiday season. Bing Crosby recorded his own version in 1963 and made it into a hit. It has been recorded several times over the tears by numerous musicians.

I decided to go with the Whitney Houston version. Oh that voice. I miss it so much (and really need to get one of her albums). Here it is. Lyrics first followed by the video. Enjoy!

Do You Hear What I Hear?

Said the night wind to the little lamb,
do you see what I see
Way up in the sky, little lamb,
do you see what I see
A star, a star, dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite
With a tail as big as a kite

Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy,
do you hear what I hear
Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy,
do you hear what I hear
A song, a song, high above the trees
With a voice as big as the sea
With a voice as big as the sea

Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king,
do you know what I know
In your palace warm, mighty king,
do you know what I know
A Child, a Child shivers in the cold
Let us bring Him silver and gold
Let us bring Him silver and gold
Said the king to the people everywhere,
listen to what I say
Pray for peace, people everywhere!
listen to what I say
The Child, the Child, sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light
He will bring us goodness and light
